When it comes to becoming and staying healthy, what do you put at the top of the list? I’m sure that most people would put diet and regular exercise as two of the essentials. Some will add the role and influence of our individual genetics.
While acknowledging the importance and relevance of those factors, I would like to add a fourth element that is often overlooked: the ideas that we allow to enter our mind.
Edward Bernays was Sigmund Freud’s nephew who is considered the Father of Public Relations. Bernays essentially wrote the book on propaganda, which is defined as the “art of manipulating public opinion through mass marketing.” It was Bernays who crafted marketing campaigns during the 1920s that convinced women to take up cigarette smoking because it was “liberating.” His marketing campaigns also elevated bacon-and-eggs into a breakfast staple, and helped to convince municipalities to add fluoride to their water supply.
Bernays published a book called Propaganda in 1928 that can be downloaded here. After the Nazi Party seized control of Germany in 1933, their political leaders shoehorned Bernays’ ideas into the mindset of the people of that country. Excerpted below, The Big Lie is a quote attributed to Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Party’s propaganda minister.
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
The first chapter of Propaganda is entitled, “Organizing Chaos,” which is both poignant and ironic when viewed in the context of today, given the media clamor that has elevated the public’s fear over the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. Instead of issuing a calm and rational response, local officials arbitrarily shut down facilities and scheduled events and demand that the public lock themselves in their homes throughout most of the day. Like obedient sheep, the public goes berserk in buying rolls of toilet paper and other household goods.

Nonstop 24/7 media coverage ramps up the public’s fear and anxiety levels. Viewpoints of the virus situation that are contrary to those issued and approved by established health authorities such as the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization are ignored or censored.
Few take the time to ask a fundamental question: “Where is the proof to justify the wholesale lockdown of people around the world?” Jon Rappoport put this question on the table in his March 16, 2020 article, excerpted below:
Quarantines, lockdowns, the advice to maintain “social distancing,” and wall-to-wall propaganda about “transmission of the virus” have resulted in mass cancelation of public events. Untold numbers of small businesses are in serious trouble. How Many People REALLY Have Coronavirus?
False positive results for COVID-19 are off the charts, according to this study published by PubMed.
Potential false-positive rate among the ‘asymptomatic infected individuals’ in close contacts of COVID-19 patients
Zhonghua Liu Xing Bing Xue Za Zhi. 2020 Mar 5;41(4):485-488.
Results: When the infection rate of the close contacts and the sensitivity and specificity of reported results were taken as the point estimates, the positive predictive value of the active screening was only 19.67%, in contrast, the false-positive rate of positive results was 80.33%.
On March 12, 2020, Tech Startups posted a report entitled, “MIT biologist says fear mongering on coronavirus will go down as biggest fraud to manipulate economies.”
Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai, an MIT scientist and researcher on the human immune system, is one the most respected experts who think the media and the “Deep State” are doing the world a disservice by exaggerating the impact of the virus. He said it’s time to stop scaring people and start talking about immune health.
Meanwhile, elected officials like the Mayor of San Francisco and the Governor of New Jersey have begun to take draconian measures to the health crisis by instituting strict curfews that force local residents to become prisoners inside their homes.

The media barrage has hypnotized the public into believing all sorts of irrational statements:
“This virus is extremely deadly and dangerous. Millions will die. Don’t you dare touch me or your face! You might be a carrier, even if you don’t feel sick or exhibit symptoms.”
Fortunately, saner minds have begun to push back and make their voices heard. For instance, the owner of a bar in Nashville has refused to shut down, calling the Mayor’s mandate ‘Unconstitutional.’ A nurse in Tennessee went out and made a YouTube video that described her encounter with a hysterical woman at a grocery store who yelled at the clerk who happened to touch his face while ringing up her groceries.
Let’s stop for a second to rationalize about this alleged pandemic. Each year approximately 15 million people die annually from a respiratory ailment, while casualties due to influenza may exceed 300,000. This chart posted on Twitter compares the number of worldwide deaths attributed to Coronavirus during the months of January and February 2020 with other causes such as the common cold, malaria, and cancer.
Does it make sense that mass hysteria has been generated over a few thousand deaths where the victims are mostly among the elderly who are already immunocompromised?
As defined on UrbanDictionary, fear porn is a slang term that describes content that is “highly addictive for its paranoia and disassociating side affects.” In that regard, fear porn acts just like a drug that turns the reader into a compulsive addict who keeps on coming back for more.
Recognizing the addiction is an important first step. Turn off the televised news broadcasts that only provide a one-sided narrative. Take time during each day to do something other than browse news stories on your computer and send text messages on your smart phone. If you have kids or grandkids, spend time reading books to them or playing games. Work in your garden, play music, try out a new recipe, and take naps. Do some yoga stretches and relax in your sauna or hot tub (if you are fortunate to have one). These are just a few ideas.
Break the fear porn habit and free your mind and body away from the chaos. You will be glad you did.
