Double 00 Vcaps™Customer writes: I cannot abide the bitter taste of your product, so given that all the water in my house has been filtered to remove chlorine, can I fill empty 00 gelatin capsules with 1 teaspoon of sulphur crystals and swallow, then follow up with the 10 ounces of water? I have used the NOW brand of Vcaps – which are vegetarian – for years, so I’m familiar with knowing how many capsules I would need to take to ingest a standard dose (teaspoon) of sulphur. Also, I have a friend who asked whether sulphur would need to be dissolved before ingestion. Please advise.

My response

As you probably know, gelatin can be sourced from a variety of animals, including cattle, chicken, pigs, horses, and fish. For religious and health reasons, many people refrain from consuming pork products. In addition, empty capsule containers often originate from China, whose manufacturing methods are subject to debate.

For many of my customers, they have found that adding a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar or a half teaspoon of pure maple syrup to their sulfur drink helps to mask the bitter flavor. Since you are confident about the nature and source of your gelatin capsules, I believe your approach is equally valid and acceptable.

With regard to your friend’s question, she can take the product ‘as-is’ without dissolving it in water. In fact, there are lots of folks who brush their teeth with the sulfur crystals to improve the health of their gums.

The key to the sulfur protocol is to consume enough water during the day. Detox symptoms such as diarrhea, dizziness, and headaches are commonly linked to dehydration, whereby, the body attempts to dispose of toxins at a faster rate than it can handle. The general rule of thumb is to drink an ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight. For instance, if you weigh 128 pounds, the recommended amount of water to consume daily would be 64 ounces (about 8 glasses). If you are a notoriously light sleeper, then you may want to take your second dose of sulfur no later than 4pm because the oxygenation process may be so potent and stimulative that it will keep you wide awake at night.

I mix 1/2 teaspoon of L-Malic Acid powder with each teaspoon of sulfur crystals in a large glass of water. It masks the taste just fine.
