From a customer: I just started taking sulfur and noticed my energy level is below par. Also, I’m concerned about having a Herxheimer reaction. Can you help? Water glass

Dr. Robert O. Young, co-author of a book called “The pH Miracle,” has been researching the alkaline design of the human body for over 30 years. He has found that a 5% drop in body fluids often leads to a 25-30% loss in energy. In fact, Dr. Young notes that the lack of water is the number one cause of daytime fatigue.

Now in its Third Edition, Dr. F. Batmanghelidj’s acclaimed book, “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water,” compliments and supports Dr. Young’s research with his premise that many symptoms are the result of being thirsty and should not be treated with drugs.

Make sure you drink plenty of water and fluids during the day in order to keep your body fully hydrated, especially when starting out on an organic sulfur regimen or increasing your intake of this vital mineral. Staying hydrated is not only beneficial to your energy level, but will also have a positive effect on your metabolism, brain functions, joints, breast health, and colon health.

If you take too little sulfur, you may experience a very noticeable and unpleasant Jarisch-Herxheimer Reaction, which occurs when injured or dead bacteria release their endotoxins into the blood and tissues faster than your body can comfortably handle it. The most common symptoms include increased fatigue, joint or muscle pain, skin rashes, photosensitivity, irritability, dizziness, sleep disturbances, muscle cramps, night sweats, hypertension, headaches (especially migraines), or swollen glands.

While it may seem counter-intuitive, the recommended way to treat a detox symptom like a Herxheimer is by taking more sulfur during those times, rather than less. When these symptoms go away and you feel normal again, cut back to the maintenance dosage, which is one teaspoon of organic sulfur in a glass of water, taken twice a day.

The Herxheimer Reaction – Feeling worse before feeling better
    The Best Years in Life

The Herxheimer Reaction is a short-term (from days to a few weeks) detoxification reaction in the body. As the body detoxifies, it is not uncommon to experience flu-like symptoms including headache, joint and muscle pain, body aches, sore throat, general malaise, sweating, chills, nausea or other symptoms.

This is a normal — and even healthy — reaction that indicates that parasites, fungus, viruses, bacteria or other pathogens are being effectively killed off. The biggest problem with the Herxheimer reaction is that people stop taking the supplement or medication that is causing the reaction, and thus discontinue the very treatment that is helping to make them better.
